Date: Tuesday, November 01 @ 10:41:20 GMT
Topic: NEBOSH Courses

A Global Demand
The new NEBOSH International General Certificate delivered by eLearning is a very significant development in addressing the global demand for Safety and Health practice to the highest recognised standards. It is designed exclusively
for those working outside the UK, and is also available to multinational companies for their overseas operations, ensuring a consistent approach across the organisation.

The International Perspective
The size of the global Health and Safety problem is considerable, with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimating 1.1 million deaths attributable every year to inadequate standards.
The new International Certificate reflects the syllabus of the established and very popular NEBOSH General Certificate that is available in the UK.

It creates a focus on management systems and best practice in the context of international standards in Health and Safety, rather than reliance on local legislation. By applying proven and recognised processes, it underpins consistent Health and Safety performance.

IGC Course Objectives
On completion of the programme, delegates will be able to:

• Identify common hazards in the workplace and advise on appropriate remedial action

• Understand the foundations and frameworks for regulation of health and safety, including international standards and conventions such as ISO and ILO

• Assist in the preparation, review and monitoring of safety policy and procedures including pro-active and reactive strategies, training, audits and safety committees

• Investigate accidents and other incidents and prepare cost-effective proposals to prevent recurrence

• Communicate effectively on health and safety matters, including the use of reports

• Describe human and organisational factors affecting health and safety performance assessment – for example, health & safety culture

• Undertake effective workplace inspections and recommend cost effective remedial action

• Maintain records and information sources to advise management

• Advise on appropriate action to minimise fire risk and develop fire procedures

• Advise on the chemical and biological hazards and control

• Advise on safety in construction

What is eLearning
The eLearning programme is designed to contain all the features of a standard classroom learning programme but is complemented by a series of interactive web activities, resources and assessments. The benefits of eLearning are that you can choose the time and days of the week to study, geographical location isn’t an issue, in fact we have many international candidates on our eLearning programmes, greater flexibility to further study areas, which may be unfamiliar to you and to view examples of real case studies for each subject, the full support of our tutor moderated NEBOSH support forum. Remember; although you are not in a classroom there is still plenty of interaction through our forums, group exercise and discussions, all of which enhances your success.

Inside your eLearning environment you will be provided with a course timetable advising you which topics should be studied each week. There is flexibility built into this timetable in terms of when and where you study, but it is designed to ensure you are fully prepared for the final NEBOSH examination and assessment.

Throughout your NEBOSH eLearning course you will be fully supported by our team of expert tutors, available when you need them.

Course Duration - The course requires 90 - 120 hours of study. As a guide we recommend students study approximately 5 - 6 hours of study per week.

What are the entry requirements? - There are no formal entry requirements although a written report in English is required as a part of the examination.

Examination structure
Assessment is via two written exams each of two hours duration. The first paper undertaken in the morning is entitled Paper A1 “Controlling workplace hazards” and the afternoon exam is Paper A2 “The Management of Health and Safety”. The practical examination is held on a separate day and involves the physical inspection of a workplace and is designed to test candidate’s ability to complete a health and safety assessment and produce a management style report on their findings. To help maintain flexibility, SHEilds allow students to sit the examinations at their local NEBOSH accredited test centre or British Council (an additional sitting fee may be applicable), or students can choose to sit the examinations at any of SHEilds approved test centres free of charge (excluding examination registration fees).

On successful completion of the examination NEBOSH International Certificate holders can now join the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) as an Associate Member, using the designation AIIRSM. The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) have also announced that holders of this qualification can gain membership of IOSH at the new Technician Member grade subject to experience/application. Technician Members will be able to use the ‘TechIOSH’ letters after their names.
