HSE Audits & Inspections

Many organisations are wondering if the increased number of HSE audits/inspections is due to the FFI (Fee for Intervention) scheme. The scheme allows inspectors to recover the costs for carrying out their duties, if in their opinion, breaches of health and safety legislation has occurred.

Organisations fear that inspectors will be scrutinising even the smallest of issues just to increase the revenue for the HSER, especially considering their recent budget cuts.

A HSE spokesperson has stated that the FFI scheme has no impact on the inspection regime and they are continuing to focus on those high risk industries where they feel they can have most impact.
