SHEilds Brexit Blog NEBOSH Affected?

Will Brexit affect my NEBOSH qualification?

A Professional Explanation

At SHEilds.org we have been contacted by a number of people concerned about how Brexit and the uncertainty surrounding it, may impact NEBOSH qualifications.

Put simply, students are wondering “Will Brexit affect my NEBOSH qualification?”

There are basically 3 types of people who may be affected by BREXIT:

  1. Existing holders of NEBOSH qualifications, who have already passed.
  2. NEBOSH Students, who are currently studying for their exams.
  3. Potential NEBOSH Students thinking about choosing a course.

The following should provide a professional explanation for all the above on the future relevance and security of SHE Qualifications.

Existing holders of NEBOSH qualifications

Let’s begin with existing holders of NEBOSH qualifications, who have already passed with SHEilds.org.

As you have already completed your chosen NEBOSH qualification with SHEilds.org, any impact created by BREXIT will be minimal. In the future there may be additional training which you can choose to undertake.

Part of your role as a Health and Safety professional requires you to keep up to date with changes in legislation. The core knowledge you have learnt in your previous studies with SHEilds.org will provide an underpinning base for any changes that may come.

At SHEilds.org we suggest that you become a member of IOSH and join their continual professional development (CPD) scheme, which should help you keep up to date with any changes.

NEBOSH Students

So, what of NEBOSH Students, who are currently studying for their exams with SHEilds.org?

Well, if you are currently studying for an exam with SHEilds.org, based upon the latest legislation and regulations. It is highly unlikely the course content or the examinations will change during your study, meaning BREXIT will not affect your study.

Once you have successfully completed your qualification, you will be able to top up your knowledge and keep up to date with any legislation changes as mentioned above.

We continue to recommend that you become a member of IOSH and join their continual professional development (CPD) scheme, which should help you keep up to date with any future changes.

Potential NEBOSH Students

What about Potential NEBOSH Students thinking about enrolling for a course then?

When you enrol upon your chosen NEBOSH qualification with SHEilds.org, you will have the choice of ‘National’ or ‘International’ versions.

When deciding which NEBOSH course to choose, we would firstly ask you to consider where you will be using your new qualification, within the UK or outside of the UK.

Within the UK:

We suggest that you choose a NEBOSH ‘National’ qualification. The legislation covered in the NEBOSH ‘National’ qualifications is based upon UK law and legislation.

Outside of the UK:

We suggest that you choose a NEBOSH ‘International’ qualification. The legislation covered in the NEBOSH ‘International’ qualifications is based upon International codes of best practice and the ILO.

Whichever qualification you choose to study with SHEilds.org, your course syllabus and material will be clearly explained and your examinations will be based upon the material you have studied.

Summary

To offer a straightforward summary; in our opinion, Brexit will have a minimal impact upon your existing NEBOSH qualification or NEBOSH examinations in the near future, above any existing plans already being looked into by the awarding body.

In any case, the awarding body has shown historically, that they will provide adequate notice and timeframe with the implementation of any changes, ensuring minimal disruption to the candidates.

Legislation and best practice both in the UK and internationally, are updated and changed regularly, this is a normal part of Health and Safety and has been for many years. This in no small part is due to our expanding experiences and knowledge, so should be nothing major to worry about.

NEBOSH continue to be recognised globally as the leading Health and Safety examining body. This expands well past the borders of the UK and Europe to the rest of the world.
