NEBOSH Graduation 2016 Awards

NEBOSH Graduation 2016 at Warwick University

I attended the NEBOSH Graduation day on Monday 27th June at Warwick University.

As I was unable to attend my own graduation, I was not sure what to expect and was really encouraged to see how lovely the day was.  To begin with, the sun shone all day!  Diplomates were made to feel very honoured and the whole day ran as smooth as clockwork.  I was lucky enough to meet a lot of the staff from NEBOSH and through chatting to various people I realised that the entire day had been organised by NEBOSH alone without utilising an events co-ordinator to organise the day.  From the directions, distribution (and collection) of hired gowns through to professional photographers, the day was well put together and stress free for delegates, guests and those graduating.  Smiling faces were seen all around.

The Chair of NEBOSH, Sir Bill Callaghan, opened the ceremony stressing the importance of health and safety followed by a speech from the guest of honour, Dame Judith Hackitt DBE.  Both speakers were keen to congratulate students and acknowledged the hard work and dedication that students had applied in order to achieve the NEBOSH Diploma.

As students received their award including SHEilds candidate Shahzeem Shams (kudos to Theresa Budworth, Chief Executive of NEBOSH on pronouncing some tricky names without faltering), they shook hands with both Dame Hackitt and Sir Callaghan and photos were taken of each and every Diplomate on stage.  Special recognition was given to those students who had passed with credit or distinction.  It was especially encouraging to see younger faces in the achievers.

Following the ceremony, there was a pleasant drinks reception where Diplomates could access information from IOSH, IEMA and other providers. For those Diplomates who had achieved “best candidate” awards, there was the VIP waiting area and lunch.  This added a little extra touch to those who had achieved such a high standard.

Not everyone who passed their Diploma attended the ceremony but I would urge future successful candidates to do so as it really brings home what an achievement the qualification is. It makes the hard work and sacrifice worth it and is such an enjoyable day for everyone.

And what great day! Each year the NEBOSH graduation brings hundreds of successful candidates together to celebrate their academic achievements. SHEilds candidates are often awarded some of the highest accolades, such as Best Candidate awards. We would very much like to see you there amongst other successful SHEilds students.
