New and improved, the recently released 2023 publication of the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals online course, is for those working within the UK with a high level of health and safety responsibility within their organisation.
Designed as a replacement for the older “NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (2014 specification)”, this new NEBOSH Diploma is easier to digest and more accessible to learners – as course assessment can now be completed remotely via Internet, unlike the older version.
100% aligned with and based on the strict UK standards for managing an organisations legal health and safety requirements. This online NEBOSH National Diploma course provides the knowledge and understanding that underpins competent performance as an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner (OHASP).
Upon successful completion, Diploma holders will have the necessary skills to perform and excel within any safety focussed job role.
There are three units to study in the NEBOSH National Diploma:
Students should be mindful this is a Degree level qualification and as such SHEilds classify the NEBOSH National Diploma course as a demanding qualification.
Whilst not mandatory NEBOSH do advise that learners should have studied the NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent qualification) as the diploma starts teaching at a high level.
Students may find it difficult to gain a pass mark if they do not have existing background knowledge as a health & safety practitioner or the ability to study at Degree level.
The NEBOSH National Diploma in Health & Safety is designed for individuals with a desire to progress their career in Occupational Health & Safety and work within the United Kingdom only.

If you reside outside of the United Kingdom, you must study the NEBOSH International Diploma as this covers international best practices. The International Diplomas omits the requirements of UK Law and Legislation. Those holding the National diploma are eligible to work both inside and outside of the UK.
A NEBOSH National Diploma is a Level 6 qualification on the NQF, a Level 10 on the SCQF and equivalent to a University Bachelors Degree. To progress further, we suggest moving on to a Level 6 NVQ or NEBOSH Environmental Diploma course.

No formal entry requirements exist to enrol on to this NEBOSH National Diploma Course. This NEBOSH Diploma is equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and candidates must be prepared to study at this level.
Major update: The new 2023 publication of the NEBOSH National Diploma no longer includes information covered within the level 3 – National General Certificate course. This means, as of July 2023 NEBOSH now strongly recommend learners should complete the General Certificate (or similar qualification) before undertaking this level 6 Diploma.
Therefore, it will be extremely beneficial for students to have already achieved certification in the National General Certificate before attempting this NEBOSH Diploma level course, as this greatly improves a students’ potential end-result.
Students may find it difficult to gain a pass mark, if they do not have prior background knowledge as a health & safety practitioner or the ability to study at Degree level.
Considering the above, the only critical requirement to enrol on this course is that the student must have an appropriate understanding of the English language in order to explain the concepts within the course syllabus.
NEBOSH recommend that students score 7.0 or higher in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Questions within NEBOSH examinations are all phrased in English. Your answers are also required to be provided in English.
As long as you meet the required standard of English, you can enrol on this NEBOSH Diploma.
There is the potential to become a Registered Membership of the Association for Project Safety (RMaPS), however this involves completing a NEBOSH Construction Certificate in addition to this Diploma.
Once you’ve completed this qualification you’ll be entitled to use the professional post nominals DipNEBOSH after your name, on business cards, letters and emails, etc.
