NEBOSH National Diploma
There are no educational prerequisite requirements to enrol on to the NEBOSH National Diploma qualification, however as the qualification is taught and examined in English a good understanding of the English language is highly recommended. Our feedback shows that not only do Students find it helpful to have already achieved certification of the NEBOSH National General Certificate prior to undertaking a NEBOSH Diploma, It also greatly enhances the students’ potential end result.
The NEBOSH National Diploma is a level 6 qualification on the UK qualification framework and level 10 on the Scottish qualification framework this equal to an Honors Degree level qualification in health and safety practice and as such is a demanding qualification.

Standard of English
It is required that you have a good understanding of English, both reading and writing. Should English not your first language, we advise candidates can achieve level 6 on the “International English Language Test” (IELT).

Exams and how you’re assessed
There are four major course Units (A, B, C & D) to successfully complete before you become fully certified with the NEBOSH National Diploma qualification.
The written examinations are held twice each year and are to be taken on location at a registered NEBOSH examination centre. Additional sitting fees may be applicable based on the exam centre venue.
The examinations are scheduled on NEBOSH standard examination dates in the months of January and July.
Written Exam Papers
Examinations comprise of one 3-hour written paper for each of the core unit modules (Unit A, Unit B & Unit C), which means there are three, 3-hour examinations in total for all core units.
Practical Exam Papers
Students must also complete workplace-based assignments for the Unit D module, which also includes an ongoing discussion log between yourself and your tutor.
How your NEBOSH papers are marked
Similar to the International variant of this course, the core Unit exam papers will be marked by approved NEBOSH examiners that provide basic feedback and an overall grade. You need to gain a minimum passing grade of 54 out of 120 marks (that’s 45% to pass) for each of the core Unit exam papers. The Unit D assignments are graded by NEBOSH with an on-going discussion log, which is maintained by your assigned NEBOSH Diploma SHEilds Tutor as evidence for your contribution and understanding of the assignment.
IMPORTANT! Only students who have enrolled with NEBOSH through an accredited NEBOSH Diploma training centre are eligible to register for the examination.

National Diploma – Unit D
The Unit D Assignment
The NEBOSH National Diploma course includes an assignment which is evaluated differently than a paper-based examination. The Unit D assignment allows the student to use the knowledge and theory gained throughout the course in a practical application, to prove to NEBOSH their level of understanding, and ability to use this understanding in a professional capacity.
Your tutors will guide you through the Unit D Assignment for the National Diploma and a log of discussions between yourself and tutor is kept as evidence, which is collated over your study period.
