Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements exist to enrol on the Working Safely training course.

The only critical requirement to enrol on this course is that the student must have an appropriate understanding of the English language in order to understand and express the concepts within the course syllabus.

Questions within IOSH examinations are all phrased in English. Your answers are also required to be provided in English.

As long as you meet the required standard of English, you can enrol on this course.

Study Syllabus

The IOSH working safely course is divided into 4 study modules:

  • Introducing working safely
  • Defining hazard and risk
  • Identifying common hazards
  • Improving safety performance

IOSH Training Support

All our IOSH courses include Tutor Support. You’ll receive all the guidance you need to successfully complete the Working Safely course and gain a certificate of completion.

Course Assessment

One Online Exam + One Online Hazard Spotting Assessment

After learning from the online study materials, there is 1 online examination and 1 online hazard spotting inspection assessment to pass before the certificate of completion can be awarded.

Students get 6 months access and a maximum of 2 attempts at the course assessment within this period.

How the Managing Safely course is graded

The IOSH working safely course grades are broken down into two parts, an online exam and an online hazard spotting assessment.

  • The online timed examination, comprising of 33 interactive questions (worth 33 marks).
  • The online Hazard Spotting Assessment comprising of 4 scenarios, where students are required to correctly identify hazards, risks and controls (worth 16 marks).

The exam and hazard spotting assessment grades are combined totalling a maximum of 49 marks.

To achieve a pass, you must score a minimum of 20 out of 33 marks for the online exam, and 10 out of 16 marks for the online assessment. The minimum overall marks required for a pass is 30.

Exam Fees

All examination and registration fees are included within your course fee.

There may be a fee to post your IOSH Certificate of completion depending on delivery location.

Steps to Pass

There are 4 steps to passing the IOSH Working Safely course.

  1. Enrol on the working safely training course with SHEilds.
  2. Study the modules of the course.
  3. Take the online exam, remotely via Internet connection.
  4. Take the online hazard spotting project assessment.

 Once both the online exam & assessment are successfully passed, you’ll receive your final grade.

Students will receive their final IOSH Working Safely grade online or directly from our tutors. Between 8-10 weeks later your certificate of completion will be sent to your course provider (SHEilds). We’ll then contact you and send your certificate to an address of your choosing via post. There may be a small courier delivery fee.

Career Progression

Once you have successfully gained the IOSH Working Safely certificate, we recommend progressing to a level 2 or equivalent qualification, ideally the IOSH Managing Safely course.

Alternatively studying a level 3 NEBOSH National / International General certificate in health & safety is a great next step for those considering a career in health and safety practice.

Why should I study IOSH Working Safely?

It is a legal requirement everybody in the workplace receives health and safety training. The IOSH Working Safely is a great addition to health and safety induction training within any organisation.

What level is IOSH Working Safely?

IOSH working safely is equivalent to a level 1 awareness qualification on the National Qualification Framework.

To progress further, we suggest moving on to an IOSH Managing Safely level 2 course.

How can I study IOSH Working Safely?

IOSH training is conducted via the SHEilds elearning platform which provides you access to your own individual virtual training area. The training has been designed to be user friendly, informative and interactive and includes video and audio.

The interactive nature of the course aids retention of information, meaning that, not only will you be able to successfully pass the examinations you will be able to make a real difference in your own workplace.

How long is IOSH Working Safely?

The IOSH Working Safely is a 5 hour course, plus the assessment.

SHEilds provide students with 6 months to complete the course, however most complete it within one day.

How do I take my IOSH Working Safely exam?

The IOSH Working Safely course requires you to complete a two-part examination to successfully pass and be eligible to claim your certificate.

Both exams are taken online, at the end of the training.

Where do I sit the IOSH Working Safely exam?

IOSH Working Safely examinations are completed entirely online.
