Health and safety experts say ‘Hats off!’ to graduates

sponsor nebosh fire

Despite the recent media coverage of a university that banned graduates from flinging mortar boards in the air, NEBOSH, the leading health and safety examination board in the UK requested their graduates do exactly that at their Annual Graduation Ceremony this week. Over 400 NEBOSH graduates from the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean attended the event at the University of Warwick.

NEBOSH Chief Executive, Teresa Budworth said: “Health and safety is not about overreacting to trivial risks, but the publicity given to such cases overshadows the essential role that our graduates play in protecting people at work.”

She continued: “So we will be positively encouraging our graduates to throw their mortar boards in the air – their achievement is something well worth celebrating!”

Professor Dame Carol Black, the government’s first Director of Health at Work was the Guest of Honour and congratulated successful students at the ceremony.

The NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (equivalent to an Honours Degree) is regarded as the standard qualification for health and safety practitioners and is taken by over 1,000 people annually.
