Britain’s first health and safety vending machine

The country’s first safety / security vending machine has been set up in Hull – the UK City of Culture, the 3 month trial period is due to come to an end shortly. The results of this trial period will determine whether the scheme is rolled out across other NHS trusts in the country.

H&S vending machineThe machine offers security items, including personal attack alarms, UV marker pens, High- Visibility vests and carbon monoxide detectors.

Humberside Police and health executives at Hull Royal Infirmary installed the machine at the hospital’s tower block building back in Aug 2013.

“There are obvious benefits to it being in the hospital – a patient leaving the emergency department late at night would feel that bit safer if they had a panic alarm or a member of staff cycling home from work in the dark might want a high- visibility vest to wear”.

Money made from the machine supplied by the Kingston-upon-Hull  firm F&T Vending, will go towards local community schemes in safety and crime reduction.

It is hoped this will be the first of many community safety/security vending machines across not only Hull, but the entire country to help improve safety.
