NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management

Candidates must achieve 95 out of a total of 200 marks.

To pass this NEBOSH Environmental Diploma, you’ll need to achieve:

• At least 45 marks from the ED1 written exam, plus
• A minimum of 50 marks from the NDEM2 project assignment

To pass this qualification you will need to complete both the ED1 exam and the NDEM2 project assignment before a final overall grade is awarded.

To achieve the minimum pass grade you need to score at least 95-114 marks, 115-134 marks for a credit and 135 marks or more to pass with a distinction!

NEBOSH est. 1979, has been a UK-recognised awarding body since 2000 and received Approved Awarding Body Status from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accreditation in 2009.

This NEBOSH Environmental Diploma is designed for individuals with responsibilities for the management of environmental risk in relation to the damage caused by work activities.

Approximately 235 hours time dedication is required to be completed within a one year period. On average candidates complete this environmental management diploma in 9-12 months.

Overview of Time dedication:

• Unit ED1: 90 hours tuition plus 40 hours private study.
• Unit NDEM2: 33 hours tuition plus 72 hours private study.
• Total: 123 tuition hours, 112 private study hours = 235 hours.

One Written Exam + One Project Assignment

There are 12 units to study followed by one 3 hour, in-person written exam (ED1):

• ED1 Exams are held twice a year in the months of February and July.

You must also submit an 8,000 word, work-place based project assignment (NDEM2), with consideration to environmental Regulations:

• NDEM2 assignments are held four times a year in the months of February, May, August and November.

Essentially there are 6 steps to passing the NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management.

1. Enrol on the Environmental Diploma with SHEilds.
2. Study the 12 elements of the ED1 Unit.
3. Register for and sit your ED1 written exam, in-person at an exam centre.
4. Study 3 elements of the Project Assignment unit (NDEM2).
5. Register for the Project Assignment (NDEM2) and submit your report to the NEBOSH website.
6. Once ED1 & Project Assignment (NDEM2) are both submitted, you’ll receive your final grade.

Enrol on the Environmental Diploma with SHEilds

To become qualified, first enrol on the environmental Diploma with SHEilds, providing your personal details to ensure you meet the requirements.

Study the 12 elements of the ED1 Unit

You must study 12 elements of thee ED1 unit, engage with your tutor and attempt practice questions online.

Register for and sit your ED1 written exam, in-person at an exam centre

Complete your ED1 exam registration, decide which date and global venue to sit your exam, then attempt the written paper. You’ll receive your grade via post.

Study 3 elements of the Project Assignment Unit (NDEM2)

There are 3 elements to study, focusing on legislation and Regulations, which are relevant to the work-place based Project Assignment you need to submit.

Register for the Project Assignment (NDEM2) and submit your report to the NEBOSH website

Once you’re satisfied you’ve studied enough, register for your Project Assignment and complete the 8,000 report. You’ll upload your report directly to the nebosh website, where nebosh examiners will grade your submission.

Once ED1 & Project Assignment (NDEM2) are both submitted, you’ll receive your final grade

When both ED1 written exam & Project Assignment have been completed, you’ll receive your final Environmental Diploma grade via post directly from nebosh. Between 8-10 weeks later your certificate of completion will be sent to your course provider (SHEilds). We’ll then contact you and send your certificate to an address of your choosing via post.
