Film maker & Camera man Paul Berriff wins 2nd BAFTA for Piper Alpha
Paul Berriff from Hessle near Hull (UK City of Culture winners 2014/17) has received a second BAFTA Award for his documentary broadcast entitled “Fire In the Night” on BBC2 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Piper Alpha oil rig disaster that occurred on the 6th July 1988, killing 167 men leaving only 61 survivors.
Film maker and camera man Mr Berriff took 3 years tracking down many of the remaining survivors (many of which are now retired) to get their perspective of the events of the Piper Alpha disaster. A number of survivors were forced to jump over 300 feet into the burning surface of the water and many of their incredible stories had not previously been heard.
